Reims - Dijon

Thursday 11 December

Time to move on from Champagne and hit Bourgogne (Burgundy).Pleasant uneventful drive south stopping for a few hours in Troyes ont he way.

Troyes, like Reims, is one of the historical capitals of Champagne - full of gothic churches and medieval and rennaissance half timbered houses. Had a bit of a wander around, visited an apothecarie museum, the mandatory churches and then moved on to Dijon.

Our accomodation in Dijon is very homely - a fine 2 bedroom apartment on the top floor of an 18th century building in the Antiquarian Quarter of Dijon. This part of Dijon is the old part of the city near the palace of the Dukes of Burgundy. Out for a nice meal at a local restaurant including of course a sample of the fine local vin rouge.

Friday 12 December

A day exploring - first with the markets. Friday is the day for markets in Dijon - food of all shapes and sizes - chicken, beef, lamb, pork, cured, aged, in sausages, cooked, vegetables, fruit, berries, cheeses, and on and on and on...we must buy some supplies - dinner and breakfast. Dinner is some beautifully cooked pork with some pomme dauphinois, a little salad, some sheep cheese, some brie, some cured beef for breakfast, a baguette traditionale, some terrine and some raspberries to snack on and we are good to go!

The afternoon is spent exploring the rest of Dijon - up and down the cobbled streets, over to the the Dukes Palace and the Art Museum, in and out of a few antique shops and no, we haven't bought anything yet!!!

Quiet night at home with all our wonderful produce from the markets and a good bottle of the local rouge.
